I had another visit with a Physical Therapist this Monday, this time a different PT from the same medical office, and had some very encouraging results!
Matt is the new PT, and he’s a marathoner!
I told him everything that Colleen, the other PT, had told me – about how I need to build up strength in my arches and need to wear shoes with arch support until I build up that strength. He watched me walk barefoot, felt my foot, listened to my desires to run in Vibram FiveFingers, and asked about my current pain… and told me I could probably keep doing what I was doing.

So now, I’ve got a follow-up PT appointment this Friday with *both* trainers, and they’re going to watch me run in my VFFs, and then both discuss what they think the best next steps are for me…
In the meantime, I’ve got homework from Matt the PT – go running in my VFFs like I normally would. If I get the same peroneal (fibular) tendon pain that I was getting before, I’m supposed to stop running, change into my “normal” shoes (New Balance running shoes), run some more, and see if it lessens the pain or not.
If it doesn’t change anything, we learn something. If it helps when I change into “normal” shoes, we learn something.
Either way, tonight I’m running at TNT track, and I can’t wait!
